Animators Join in CalArts CAP Program

Henry Selick, director of the Oscar-nominated animated feature Coraline, will be among the animation ambassadors taking part in CalArts’ Community Arts Partnership’s 20th anniversary program.

To commemorate the 20th anniversary of CalArts’ public-private arts education partnership, 20 artist ambassadors from all disciplines of the arts will share their expertise with CAP’s youth participants in a series of free classes held throughout Los Angeles County in March.

In addition to Selick, the animation ambassadors are Mark Osborne, director of Kung Fu Panda, and Jorge Gutierrez, writer and producer on El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera from Sony Pictures Imageworks Animation



Music ambassadors: Kara DioGuardi (American Idol judge and songwriter), Airborne Toxic Event (indie rock band), Charlie Haden (jazz musician), Rufus Choi (classical pianist)


Film/Television/Theater ambassadors: Ed Harris (Pollock, The Hours actor), Brett Ratner (I Love You, New York, Rush Hour 3, X-Men: The Last Stand director), Miguel Sandoval (Medium actor), Cress Williams (Grey’s Anatomy actor)



Dance ambassador: Carrie Ann Inaba (Dancing with the Stars judge)



Visual Arts/Photography ambassadors: Edgar Arceneaux, Cathy Opie, Mark Bradford


Artist ambassadors are comprised of CAP supporters from the arts and entertainment industry, as well as CalArts alumni.
