Question for the week of October 25, 2007

With the success of programs like Hannah Montana and High School Musical, children's TV outlets are all looking for the next live-action hit. Do you think this will have a significant effect on the animaton industry?

Yes, Yes it will. Disney Channel hardly has any animated programming on it, about one show and their best show Kim Possible they just cancelled. Disney was built on animation, it\'s awful. And what\'s with Cartoon Network having live-action programming, it\'s the Cartoon Network for pete\'s sake.

    This is bad, bad, bad

So far yes it appears to be a very bad thing. Seem that Disney has abandoned it\\\'s TV animation heritage in favor of \\\"Moral-of-the-Story\\\", Teen/Tween shows. I miss the animal based shows like Duck Tales and Darkwing Duck. Seems that everything is human based now. Since Disney is making money by the truck loads with Hanna and Raven it won\\\'t be long until all of Disney Channel is nothing but live action and animation will be strictly for theaters or straight to DVD releases.

It is very clear given the current industry of gaming that with the influence of more live action shows taking over the tv networks that animation has moved from a childrens market to a more mature audience just as comic books was forced to mature so to is animation. I do not feel children today are getting the entertainment I got from the cartoons and animated features I enjoyed and too much emphasis is being placed on mature themes which I feel has taken away from the creative innocence that animation once portrayed.
