Each category winner will receive $500 in spending money to come to the 2010 Game Developers Conference in March 2010 and showcase their mobile game.
The five category winners will exhibit their games in a special area of the main IGF Pavilion, the winners will then compete for the coveted IGF Mobile Best Game award, worth $2,500. The prize is presented on stage during the main Independent Games Festival Awards, preceding the Game Developers Choice Awards ceremony on March 11th, 2010. In addition, the winners in each category can take part in an IGF Mobile Finalist Showcase at GDC10, a session during which the five IGF Mobile main prize finalists will present their mobile games to the audience.

Aimed at a 4-6 year age group, Jelly Jamm is a lively 'musical comedy' about discovery, friendship and adventure on the magical planet Jammbo; the origin of music in the universe.
During development the project will be rolled out across all platforms including TV, music, toys, DVDs, merchandising, videogames, books and a fantastic state-of-the-art online world.
Jelly Jamm Synopsis
Science is almost always right. The force of gravity, the speed of light, ice-creams that melt in the summer. But, what is all that about there being no sound in Space? How can that be when there is a jamming groove flowing around every corner of the Universe?
We know the answer: There's a party on Jammbo.
Jammbo is a remote planet covered with craters, with holes like Swiss cheese, where there is no place for noise or silence. Jammbo is the origin of music in the Universe; a place with a constant groove where animals, plants and even the wind express themselves through music. This is the magical setting where five friends (Bello, Ongo, Rita, Mina and Goomo), brought together by their passion for music, are constantly embarking on all sorts of fun adventures.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
TORONTO (September 21, 2009) - The Fremantle Corporation heads to this year's MIPCOM with the new animated movie, The Last Flight of the Champion. The ninety-minute comedy/adventure film follows the young crew of the last Cosmic Marshal ship, The Champion, as they journey through the galaxy to bring fairness, justice and safety to all inhabitants.
According to The Fremantle Corp.'s principal director, Irv Holender, "We are hoping to take 'Last Flight' from a feature to a long form series depending on how well it performs at the markets. We will be looking for merchandising opportunities as well."
The Last Flight of the Champion is a tale of a peaceful galaxy, protected by a fleet of powerful space ships called the Cosmic Marshals. It is a time of hope and renaissance as a galactic society stands at the peak of technological advancement and community cooperation. But with no evil in the galaxy, there was no need for the ships and they were decommissioned or destroyed one by one. This comedy/adventure story takes place a thousand years later as the galaxy has steadily isolated itself, and the evil tyrant, General Disdain and his Shocktroopers have risen to power. Without the Cosmic Marshals to protect the galactic society and with the planets no longer as unified as they once were, there is only a small militia of peace cadets to stand between Disdain and total galactic domination. The young crew of the last Cosmic Marshal ship, The Champion, will fight to restore safety in the galaxy. Produced by Omnipulse Entertainment.

Thanks to their co-sponsors at The National Watermelon Association, Pathmark Supercenters, The Florida Watermelon Association and Sweet Mama Produce, the first ever Six Flags Great Adventure watermelon seed spitting event was a huge success! Contestants vied for the title of champion seed spitter and two preliminary winners went on to compete in the grand finale for the overall title on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. With the help of Charlie Browns Restaurants and country superstar LeAnn Rimes, The Giddy Gander Company was able to offer additional exciting prizes to go along with free watermelon for all who took part in this exciting day.
This event is just one of many fun and educational initiatives that has created buzz for The Wumblers brand. Proceeds from this event were donated to Tuesday's Children as a means to reinforce the importance of "giving back" in children's eyes. Coupled to that lesson and this event was the parallel launch of The Wumblers virtual watermelon seed spitting iPhone app, iSeedSpit!, which allows the fun and learning to continue 365 days a year.
Heidi Schwartz, VP of Business Development states, "This Buzz Award has motivated us to keep creating events, contests, promotions and grass root marketing efforts that compliment the overall educational philosophy of The Wumblers brand, which is to bring a sense of global and social consciousness to the forefront of every child's mind. We thank Adweek for their recognition and appreciation of our work!"
The Buzz Awards celebrate the best in brand/media integration campaigns that catch fire, brilliant product placements, innovative use of a medium for a promotion, and branding efforts that invade the pop-culture consciousness.

Mechner's keynote address will explore the success of the Prince of Persia series which was first released in 1989 as well as his own success as a game designer, programmer, and finally director and screenwriter. Following the release of seven chapters of the series, Mechner wrote the script for the film version of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and directed by Mike Newell. The movie will be released by Walt Disney Pictures in May of 2010.
"We are so excited to welcome Jordan to the stage in Shanghai," said Meggan Scavio, GDC China event director. "He has a great story to share with the audience from a game design, artistic, and storytelling perspective; as well as the business acumen to succeed in maintaining a strong brand, building commercial success, and further transitioning games to film."
Mechner's first hit game was Karateka (1984), written while he was still an undergraduate at Yale University. Prince of Persia, released in 1989, was noted for its fluid animation of human figures. Both titles were published by Broderbund. In 1993, he formed Smoking Car Productions, an entertainment software development group based in San Francisco. In 2003, Ubisoft released the fourth installment of the Prince of Persia saga, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, on which Mechner collaborated as writer and game designer. Mechner today divides his time between writing screenplays, graphic novels, and designing video games. He also wrote and directed two award-winning documentaries, including Chavez Ravine: A Los Angeles Story. He is writing the screenplay for a film adaptation of Michael Turner's Fathom starring Megan Fox. He is collaborating with artists LeUyen Pham and Alex Puvilland on a new graphic novel to be published by First Second Books in 2010.
Mechner joins a prominent lineup of GDC China speakers including Kelly Snapka (Art Director, Volition, Inc.), Todd Coleman (Co-Founder, Wolfpack Studios Inc.), Chris Ulm (CEO, Appy), Billy Hsu (CEO, DJL Worldwide), Mack Growen (GM, Playfish China), Brad MacDonald (Art Director, Large Animal Games), Tony Chen (Online Business Development Manager, Take Two Asia), Simon Carless (Publisher, Gamasutra.com and Game Developer Magazine), and several more. The GDC China early bird rate ends Tuesday, September 15, 2009.

Berlin, 3.9.2009. After the resounding success of the first KUKI Festival in 2008, the 2nd International Short Film Festival for Children and Youth Berlin has really grown! With more than 740 entries from all over the world, the KUKI team has put together a strong festival programme of exciting, funny and imaginative short films.
It all kicks off at the fabulous opening ceremony on Sunday 1 November at 3pm at Filmtheater am Friedrichshain - our festival cinema this year. The opening screening will feature a selection of competition films as well as the premiere of the film "Through the Big, Fat Wall" (WT) made during the children's filmmaking workshop "Kinder machen Kurzfilm!".
The film-packed festival week is sure to please audiences of all ages: There are five competition programmes for children aged 4+, 6+, 10+, 12+ and 14+. While all films are screened in their original language, professional actors will dub each of the programmes up to 12+ inclusive in German, live.
This year we have created a programme especially aimed at kindergarten children! The KUKI school programmes continue to inform and inspire with short documentaries, foreign language programmes and short films addressing the theme of The Wall and Borders (to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall). Pupils and teachers are encouraged to participate in open discussions after every screening with attending filmmakers.
The documentary programme Take a Look at the World reveals the diversity of children's lives from different parts of the planet and the foreign language programmes What's up? and ¿Qué onda? expose school classes to a variety of natural dialects with films shown in their original versions from English and Spanish speaking countries.
And KUKI's musical now too! At a special teenage event, a selection of the latest music videos will be shown on a big screen and followed up by an after-show party with the girl-band Maiden Monsters (www.maidenmonsters.com) and DJ Vossi (VoPo Records, RockBar Magnet, RockAG Lido).
For those who feel creatively inspired by the animation films seen at the festival, we have the TRICKBOXX from KI.KA. The TRICKBOXX is like a mini animation studio where everyone is welcome to try their hand at making an animated film. It will be located in the cinema foyer throughout the festival week.
The festival finale will take place when both the children's and youth juries announce their respective competition winners at the 25th International Short Film Festival Berlin Awards Ceremony on 8 November in Kino Babylon.
From the charm of Gumby, to the wild adventures of Wallace and Gromit, through the zaniness of Jake Skelington in The Nightmare before Christmas, we have all fallen under the magical spell of characters brought to life by stop-motion animation! Laboriously created
by artists moving puppets in tiny increments while recording one image at a
time, each short sequence can represent many hours of painstaking attention
to detail. Time consuming? Definitely! But the result can be mesmerizing and
possess near universal appeal.Frequently used in television and feature
films, stop-motion animation has recently experienced a resurgence. Despite
this, getting their work screened can still be a huge struggle for many
artists. This is why we have decided to celebrate and encourage the efforts
and talent of the many people working in this unique art form. We are
actively seeking stop-motion animated films to screen in the first edition of the
festival on October 24 and 25, 2009. Please refer to
www.StopMotionMontreal.com for the entries section to answers the many
questions you might have concerning eligibility, dates, and accepted formats.
Once you have decided to enter your film in the festival, download a
submission form, fill it out, and send it along with your film. Deadline for
film submissions is: September 30, 2009. Come and join us! It is a great
opportunity to jump on the bandwagon!

New York, NY-- Highly anticipated by independent filmmakers and movie
lovers from around the world, the second annual chashama Film Festival
explores global expression through filmmaking. Festival of the Worlds is
scheduled to honor and screen provocative movies from England, Germany,
Australia, Canada, Spain, Taiwan, Norway, Italy, France, Belgium, China,
Columbia and Israel.
Among the politically charged subjects: conquering war torn politics in
Lebanon with a sports marathon; preserving children while their parents are
dying of AIDS in Africa; exposing the detrimental tyrannical antics of Bush
Administration officials in the Middle East; and the importance of food as a
vehicle to unknown cultures.
As a critical component of cFF's campaign to broaden its outreach to
younger filmmakers and patrons, the festival launched Shanece's Compass, a
blog column written by Shanece Taylor, a Recent graduate from Boston
University's College of Communication. It aims to offer a fresh perspective
to veteran moviemakers while educating the youth film community. The blog
features film previews, commentaries, interpretations and festival news.
Shanece's Compass will simultaneously be syndicated on www.chafilmfest.com,
Twitter, Facebook and MySpace.
The chashama film festival is a platform for a wide spectrum of political,
cultural and philosophical ideologies, presented in an environment designed
to foster creative and intellectual expansion. Last year's festival screened
54 films out of more than 200 submissions, and reached an audience of
approximately 500. The chashama Film Festival will take place from October
22, 2009 to October 26, 2009 at the flagship chashama theater space, located
at 217 East 42nd Street, and other theatres to be announced. There will be
screenings Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 2am. There will be a
public opening night reception on Thursday, October 22 at 6pm. The complete
screening/venue schedule will be listed at www.chafilmfest.com.
TAC takes place October 14-15 at the elegant Chateau Laurier hotel in Ottawa. Running alongside the Ottawa International Animation Festival, this annual event attracts animation professionals in content creation, production, distribution and marketing. TAC '09 is shaping up to be one the industry won't want to miss. Passes sell out every year, so don't wait to register.
"We are excited and honoured to announce that Selig and Silverman will be on hand to present at this year's Conference", says TAC Director, Azarin Sohrabkhani. "Their expertise and success speaks for itself and it's a real privilege to have them as our keynote speakers."
Opening the conference is Josh Selig. Josh started his career as a preschooler on Sesame Street, returning many years later as a writer, and worked his way up the ladder to producer. He has won ten Emmy® awards as a member of the writing team for Sesame Street, and founded Little Airplane Productions, Inc. in 1999. Some of his many accomplishments include creating and producing the critically acclaimed series "The Wonder Pets!", as well as "Oobi!", "Go, Baby!" and "3rd & Bird".
The second day of the event will start off with David Silverman. Much of David's career has revolved around The Simpsons. He started out directing the shorts on the Tracy Ullman Show which eventually led to directing the first episodes when it became a series. He is largely credited with creating the rules for drawing The Simpsons and is considered one of the most instrumental behind-the-scenes craftsmen of the sitcom family. David became Producer as well as Supervising Animation Director for the series, directing 22 episodes and winning four Emmys® along the way. Other directing credits include the highly successful The Simpsons Movie (2007), DreamWorks' The Road to El Dorado (2000), and Pixar's Monsters, Inc. (2001).
Always entertaining and worthwhile, there's no doubt this year will be bigger and better. Last year TAC featured Robot Chicken creators Seth Green and Matt Senreich. Check out our podcast to catch a glimpse of these highly entertaining and memorable guests. www.animationfestival.ca/podcast

Norwalk, CT, August 6, 2009: The New York Anime Festival (NYAF) today announced it will host the US Premiere of Aniplex's Cencoroll animated motion picture. The 2009 New York Anime Festival, an anime, manga, and Japanese pop culture convention from the creators of New York Comic Con, will take place September 25-27, 2009 at the Jacob K. Javits Center and features Yoshiyuki Tomino -- the Director of Mobile Suit Gundam -- and Yui Makino -- the voice of Sakura in Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle -- as Guests of Honor.
Cencoroll is a 30-minute movie created entirely by one man, award-winning artist Atsuya Uki. Uki originally created a Cencoroll short in 2007 and distributed the animation via the internet. Overwhelmed by the praise and support of fans of this original short, Uki decided to single-handedly create a full film which will debut later this month in theaters in Japan -- and debut in the USA at NYAF this September. Cencoroll is the story of a provincial Japanese town under attack by a mysterious monster, and the young girl -- Yuki -- and boy -- Tetsu -- who hold the secret to fighting back: a strange and even-more-mysterious pet called Cenco. For more information and footage of Cencoroll, please visit the film's official site (www.cencoroll.com).
"The New York Anime Festival is honored to premiere Cencoroll in the USA," NYAF Show Manager Lance Fensterman said. "NYAF screened the original Cencoroll short at our first show in 2007, and we count ourselves as very fortunate to now revisit this world and present the American premiere of the full film."
Cencoroll's USA Premiere will take place on Friday, September 25 at 9 PM EST in the ANA Theater inside the New York Anime Festival. To learn more about Cencoroll and Aniplex's other upcoming titles, fans are encouraged to attend Aniplex's panel at 6:30 PM on September 25 in Panel Room 4 at NYAF.

Newbury Park, Calif. and New Orleans - August 3, 2009 New Orleans - SIGGRAPH 2009 - MAXON Computer, a leading developer of professional 3D modeling, painting, animation and rendering solutions, today announced that two of its customers, Nucleus Medical Art, and artist Betsy Kopmar, have created film projects using MAXON software that will be included in the prestigious SIGGRAPH 'Computer Animation Festival', taking place during the SIGGRAPH 2009 Conference at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans. The Computer Animation Festival, celebrating its 36th year, is an internationally renowned forum for presentation of the world's most innovative and stimulating computer-generated animated films; festival screenings run today through August 7th. {Editors' note: see screening schedule below.}
Nucleus Medical Art's film, "Atherosclerosis", is part of the festival's Juried Films category. Juried Films include visual effects, animated shorts, student animations, scientific and musical visualizations, experimental subjects and more. The Best in Show Award qualifies the winner to be considered for nomination in the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences 'Best Animated Short Film' category. Betsy Kopmar's work, "Night Fishing with Cormorants", is a curated entry in the Visual Music category, which features films marrying music and imagery.
"The SIGGRAPH Computer Animation Festival is legendary for showcasing some of the world's most stunning 3D animation and we're honored that two of our customers are represented in this year's program," said Paul Babb, president, MAXON USA. "These diverse pieces clearly demonstrate CINEMA 4D's broad range of capabilities which enable creative professionals to attain even their most complex 3D animation goals."
Though vastly different in nature and scope, both Nucleus Medical Art and Kopmar chose MAXON CINEMA 4D to take their projects from concept to creation. On the reality-based end of the 3D animation spectrum is Atherosclerosis, a three-and-a-half minute-long animation that provides a realistic view of how plaque forms within a coronary artery over time; eventually breaking free and causing a heart attack. It is the most complex project that Nucleus has created to-date. The studio's creative team relied heavily on CINEMA 4D's Studio Bundle, and most particularly the MoGraph module, to quickly and efficiently develop the ultra-dense models required to create repeat structures such as blood flow, LDL, and blood vessel walls made of hundreds of cells. With realism paramount, Nucleus artists turned to MAXON BodyPaint 3D to simulate the texture of a living heart and utilized several other CINEMA 4D modules, including HAIR, for generating cellular pseudopods, the arm-like extensions on cells, and Dynamics to create the natural bounce that occurs when migrating cells bump into each other. In addition to direct application benefits, the Nucleus team also noted CINEMA 4D's intuitive workflow, ease-of-use and tight integration with Adobe After Effects as critical elements for the project's success.

16th July 2009, Oxford, UK: Vicon, developer of motion capture and image
understanding systems, for the entertainment, life science and defense
industries, has today announced that it will be showcasing a pre-release
version of its eagerly awaited boujou 5 at the Siggraph conference this
August in New Orleans, LA. boujou is the industry leading camera
matchmoving software allowing 3D professionals to automatically derive
complex camera motion and calibration data from image sequences.
Building on its established ease of use and automation, boujou 5 is
enhanced with a unique new way of solving 3D camera positioning and motion
paths from image sequences. This new approach radically accelerates the
solve and allows users more manual interaction within complex shots.
The upgrade includes exciting new features that many existing boujou users
will have been eagerly anticipating, such as:
o New Automatic Sequential Solver-Previous versions of boujou took the
entire shot into account before delivering a solve. Now, the application
looks at a single frame at a time, which not only enables the user to
intervene, it can make the entire process a lot faster
o Fully functional Graph Editor-Lets the user manually tweak the camera
data and, if necessary, reprocess a shot. boujou 5 also provides the
ability to lock valid sections of solved data or sections which are known
to be correct, which animators can then use to improve other segments of an
image sequence.
o Reference Frames- Allows users to import still images taken with any
camera and use them to assist in a solve

Newbury Park, CA - July 2, 2009 - MAXON Computer, a leading developer of professional 3D modeling, painting, animation and rendering solutions, today announced that Big Machine Design (BMD), an award winning visual production company specializing in visuals for film titles, advertising, TV shows, games, and more, relied heavily on MAXON CINEMA 4D to create the stunning, fully CGI trailer for Square Enix's highly-anticipated game title, Front Mission Evolved. The teaser trailer premiered at E3 2009 and is currently experiencing broad pick-up on popular Internet game trailer and video sharing websites worldwide. Viewers are taken on a fly-through around a massive factory and futuristic cityscape being ravaged by warfare. The advanced functionality in CINEMA 4D is demonstrated by dramatic explosions and enormous marauding robots, while periodically cutting away to focus on assembly line machinery being built within the factory walls. The action culminates in a close-up street scene of robotic warriors rushing through the decimated city with high-tech weapons raised and ready to strike.
Front Mission Evolved is poised to become the newest game in the wildly popular Front Mission video game franchise. Created by world-class game developer Double Helix, on behalf of Square Enix, a leading video game producer, the games main interactive elements are giant armored humanoid battle vehicles known as "Wanzers," which are controlled by the player within an overall context of military conflict and political tension that takes place in a future society. Front Mission Evolved advances the Front Mission series by extending gameplay to a third-person shooter perspective.
"CINEMA 4D has been our go-to 3D software package for almost every visual campaign since we first opened our doors in 2003 but for this particular project we knew we'd have to take advantage of its powerful Studio Bundle to successfully create the level of excitement required for the first reveal of such a highly anticipated game during E3," said Ken Carlson, creative director, Big Machine Design. "Our goal was to deliver a piece that would capture the intensity and raw power of the immensely popular Front Mission series while conveying a sense of what a player can expect from both the characters and the game environment. CINEMA 4D provided us with the most comprehensive suite of 3D tools for modelling, texturing, lighting, rigging and animation - enabling us to get the project done quickly and with great results."

In his address, Petursson will discuss CCP's rise to success from relative obscurity and how the small Reykjavik-based studio overcame the stigma of producing a niche product that's now one of the largest massively multiplayer games (MMOGs) in the world: EVE Online. As a testament to the industry's potential for growth despite widespread economic turmoil and as an inspiration for up-and-coming independent studios, Petursson will give an exclusive first look at the company's latest project, which is currently in pre-production.
"GDC Europe is gearing up to be one of the industry's most essential events. I am honored to have this opportunity to share some of the valuable lessons CCP has learned with such a prestigious audience," said Hilmar Petursson.
Appointed CEO in January of 2004, Petursson has led CCP's explosive growth in terms of size and influence, including the company's expansion into Asia and North America. Earlier this year, CCP announced plans for an extensive global expansion of the company, reflecting the global uptake of MMOGs and as evidenced by EVE's ongoing prosperity.

JEANS FOR GENES -
Jeans for Genes and Chapman Entertainment, the creators of Fifi and the Flowertots, officially announce denim, dungaree-wearing, Fifi Forget-Me-Not, as the 2009 pre-school ambassador for Jeans for Genes Day on Friday 2nd October.
Jeans for Genes Day is an annual fundraising day in October when millions of children and adults across the UK make a small donation to wear their jeans to work or school. The money raised on Jeans for Genes Day funds vital care and support for children and families affected by genetic disorders, and research into the causes and cures of these conditions.
There are more than five thousand genetic disorders that we currently know about and whilst many of these conditions are extremely rare, research has shown that over half of all childhood deaths are related to a genetic disorder.
Caroline Sharp, Head of Strategic Communications, Jeans for Genes says: "Nurseries and parents with young children are key supporters of the charity so we're thrilled to have Fifi on-board to promote Jeans for Genes Day 2009. With the help of Fifi and her friends we can encourage many more people to take part in the Day and raise vital funds to help change the world for children with genetic disorders."
Greg Lynn, Managing Director, Chapman Entertainment comments: "Fifi is the number one pre-school brand for girls in the UK and we are pleased to work with Jeans for Genes to raise awareness and funding for such a good cause. Fifi loves to wear her denim outfits and we hope she can encourage pre-schoolers across the country to join in the fun on 2nd October for Jeans for Genes Day!"
Fifi and the Flowertots stars the voice of Jane Horrocks as denim wearing Fifi Forget-Me-Not. The hit series launched in 2005 and has become a firm favourite with pre-schoolers across the country. Developed by Bob the Builder originator and designer and developer of Roary the Racing Car, Keith Chapman, the beautifully constructed programmes have brought to life a series of wonderful characters who inhabit an enchanting garden filled world. The fabulous tales of Fifi and the Flowertots have an organic and responsible feel without losing that unstoppable air of fun and games.

§ European animation co-productions continue to gain ground
§ France, Spain, the UK and the Nordic countries present the most projects
Rogaland county in southwest Norway is preparing for the celebration of the 20th anniversary of Cartoon Forum, the annual European rendez-vous to support the co-production, financing and distribution of animation series for television and new media platforms.
From September 22-25 the world of animation will be watching the cities of Stavanger and Sandnes, where producers from across Europe will present the latest generation of European animation series.
This edition of Cartoon Forum will once again be defined by the diversity and quality that sets apart European animation. Of 63 projects presented, 28 are co-productions from two or more countries, confirming the increasing importance of co-productions to develop animation projects across Europe.
Together, the 63 projects contain 320 hours of animation and a total budget of 155 million EUR. France has held on to its leading role with 17 projects followed by Spain and the UK with 12 and 7 respectively. The Nordic countries continue boosting their presence on the European animation stage with 5 projects from Norway, 3 from Denmark, 2 from Finland and 1 from Sweden.
Projects developed in 2D slightly surpass those made in 3D (41% vs. 37%), while projects directed to children between 6 and 9 years old once again make up the majority with 39%. Also worth highlighting is European producers' increasing use of crossmedia formats so that content can be used on Internet, mobile phones or videogames in addition to television screens.
In addition to the presentation of these projects - the main focus of the event - Cartoon Forum Rogaland will also host the Cartoon d'Or 2009 awards for best European animated short film, a prize that has helped promote new sector talent since it was created. The Cartoon Tributes for television - which elects the best producer, broadcaster and investor/distributor of the year - will also be awarded at the event.
Since its creation in 1990, Cartoon Forum has been revered as a springboard for the production of European animation series. Organized by the European Association of Animation Film - CARTOON, the event has helped support European animation both within Europe's borders and abroad. Over 300 projects, with a total budget of more than 1 billion EUR, presented at Cartoon Forum have secured their financing.
With its beautiful landscapes and thousand-year old heritage, Rogaland county will be an ideal setting for this event, which has garnered a reputation as an excellent place to strengthen business relationships in the animation sector. This will be the first time the Cartoon Forum is held in Norway and the fourth time it lands in Nordic countries after the Kolding (Denmark, 2005), Gotland (Sweden, 2000) and Suomi, Turku (Finland, 1995) editions.
The main partners of Cartoon Forum 2009 are the EU MEDIA Programme, the cities of Stavanger and Sandnes, the Ministry of Culture and Church Affairs, the Norwegian Film Institute, Nordisk Film & TV Fond, Innovation Norway and NRK.
The delegation includes Bournemouth University, whose students have already worked on feature films like Shrek and Lord of the Rings, alongside the likes of the Bafta award winning Pesky Productions.
The government's international business development body UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) is supporting the mission to the International Animation Film Festival in Annecy in France.
Annecy will be attended by nearly 200 buyers who are on the lookout for the next big name in animation, as well as hundreds of recognised and emerging creatives, producers, service providers, broadcasters and distributors.
The push coincides with World Trade Week UK, a Government initiative to encourage exports, running from 8th to the 12th June.
UKTI Chief Executive Sir Andrew Cahn said:
"Britain is a world leader in animation. We have internationally renowned expertise across sectors from short film animation, like the Wallace & Gromit series, to the computer generated visual feature film effects showcased in the Harry Potter films.
"Creative industries make a huge contribution to the UK economy, as well as to our culture. This is something that we need to support, and I am delighted that UKTI is helping these companies attend the Annecy Festival. This is the place where animators meet key players in TV, film and advertising and it throws up lots of export opportunities.
"World Trade Week UK is all about exporting which is immensely important for the UK economy. We are very much looking forward to seeing what comes out of this event."
The delegation of 20 British companies has received financial support from UKTI and South West Screen.
South West Screen's chief executive, Caroline Norbury said:
"The South West is known for its thriving animation industry so we're delighted to be involved with such an important event. Attending international markets like Annecy is vital for companies of all sizes - especially in a sector where the UK leads the world, like animation.
"Our partnership with UKTI means we are able to offer support to more companies than ever before to attend this event and we hope that the festival produces some useful new leads for all the companies attending."

and Manga Convention
Anaheim, California (May 26, 2009) -- 12th Animation Kobe Director Award
winner, Hiroyuki Imaishi and 7th Annual Tokyo International Anime Award
recipient, Atsushi Nishigori, are now announced as official Anime Expo® 2009
Guests of Honor at the nation's largest anime and manga convention held July
2-5, 2009 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. More information can be
found on the website www.anime-expo.org <http://www.anime-expo.org> .
After graduating from Tama Art University, Mr. Hiroyuki Imaishi, was hired
as an animator for the Gainax Company, Limited. His first work was the
animation that many critics considered a social phenomenon NEON GENESIS
EVANGELION. Since then, Mr. Imaishi has worked on storyboards and as art
directors for such hit anime series as HIS AND HER CIRCUMSTANCES and FLCL.
Mr. Imaishi made his directorial debut with the OVA DEAD LEAVES. Mr.
Imaishi has also worked on RE: CUTEY HONEY and TENGEN TOPPA GURREN LAGGAN
franchise. Mr. Imaishi was also the recipient of the 12th Animation Kobe
Director's Award.
That bit of superfluous basketball commentary there, serves as a perfect analogy for the latest Dee Pee Studios film 'News!'
Director Darcy Prendergast, aka 'the clay prince' had two months bare in the schedule. Of course, any normal person would fill a two month gap with relaxing yoga classes, movie marathons, and a trip to Indonesia to cap it all off. But after watching Darcy's films, it's quite evident this kid is anything but normal. In fact, judging by his body of work, one could say he is clinically insane.... Mentally deranged at the very least. The latest offering News! is undoubtedly, further evidence.
Of course, now you're confused as to why Dee Pee Studios are into the 'play-offs' as the analogy states. They made a film- big deal... That's why we have Baz Lurhman. Well yes a film was made - in under two months which is quite an achievment for a 5 minute clay animated film, but it's the location of premiere which is the proverbial '3-pointer' from way down town.
News! has been selected for the prestigious Annecy Festival International Du Film d'Animation, one of 80 short films selected from nearly 2000. In past years, greats such as Tim Burton and Matt Groening have graced the festival with their presence - this year being no different, with Wallace and Gromit creator, Nick Park, Nightmare before Christmas director Henry Sellick, and Australia's own, Adam Elliot in Attendance.
"This year is pretty much a clay s animators wet dream" says Prendergast
This is the second time Prendergast has been selected, previously chosen for the award winning, and downright insane film, 'Ron the Zookeeper', a film about the last male grey panda in existence... Who just so happens to be impotent. Given the 'guns blazin' approach of News! it has also been selected for the special 'politically incorrect' category, which Ron the Zookeeper closed in 07.
So by now you're wondering what the hell News! is about. I don't know, Darcy said he doesn't really know either, but he did attempt to summarize.
"Gee... Annecy required a synopsis too, hard things when to write when your film has no point. Essentially it's a film about the breakdown of a news team, a surreal mix of South Park and Napoleon dynamite- politically incorrect with a lacking narrative. Although the official synopsis is: If you like burning cars, pet worms or cowbells, then this is the film for you"
Uh huh.
"Why Annecy chooses my bizarre creations, I don't know. Nor do I care. I'm heading back to the worlds biggest animation festival, to party at a French Palace, on a beautiful crystal blue lake, filled with paddleboats, at the foot of the Swiss alps. Life is good, why question it?"
Darcy Prendergast and his team continue to make weird little films, from their creative hub/ business 'Dee Pee Studios' in Melbourne. More can be found at Deepeestudios.com
For The Spine, Landreth joins forces again with producers Steve Hoban (Copperheart Animation), Mark Smith (Copperheart Animation) and Marcy Page (National Film Board of Canada), who had collaborated with him to make Ryan. The Spine is a poignant story of redemption that takes us into the relationship between a man and a woman trapped in a spiral of mutual destruction. Dan and Mary Rutherford, married 26 years, sit unhappily in a couples' group counselling session. Angela, another troubled participant in this group, wonders why their marriage has become so lopsided, so twisted. But when Mary leaves Dan, he undergoes a beautiful transformation. What will happen when she returns? Director and scriptwriter Landreth has created an insightful and daring look at the ways individuals evolve, adapt and break.
Viewers can go to www.NFB.ca/thespine for Landreth's blog. Also on the site are clips from the making of the new film as well as Landreth's previous short film, Ryan.

LOS ANGELES - June 1, 2009 - 16 works of art have been selected from a field of more than 200 submissions from around the world for the 2009 Into The Pixel Art collection. In its sixth year, Into the Pixel (ITP) is the only juried digital art exhibition that brings together experts from the traditional fine art world and the interactive entertainment industry to display and discuss the art of the video game. Into the Pixel is a joint effort of the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences, the Entertainment Software Association and the Prints & Drawings Council of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The 2009 ITP collection will be discussed and celebrated tomorrow, Tuesday, June 2, during E3 Expo at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
"Into The Pixel is strong evidence that videogames are an integral part of today's contemporary art scene," said Joseph Olin, president of The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences. "The talented artists, whose works make up the collection, demonstrate why interactive entertainment's influences are so prevalent. The Academy looks forward to the continued evolution of our medium's artists."
"The Into the Pixel exhibition is the premiere event celebrating the creative achievements of computer game artists as selected by their peers, the public and the fine art world," said Michael D. Gallagher, president and CEO, Entertainment Software Association. "Into the Pixel provides a visionary platform that both elevates and supports the often artistic genius of the interactive entertainment industry."
"I am impressed not only by the breadth of imagination and depth of skill but also by the fact that every year we receive many dozens of images that could rightly qualify for a place in the top 16., said Louis Marchesano, Getty Museum. "From the beautifully sublime to the ironically humorous-- it's all here."
Art in this year's collection features a wide array of genres, including landscape and anime to fantasy. For more information about Into the Pixel art, artists and jurors, please refer to www.IntoThePixel.com.

More than 260 products from 13 different industries were awarded - from the most innovative flat screens, the latest digital camera generation, multimedia cell phones that can be used for a variety of different applications, from the most environmentally friendly fully automated washing machines to especially functional sports clothing - and were awarded the Plus X Award seal for exceptional achievements in the categories Innovation, High Quality, Design, Ease of Use/Functionality, Ergonomics and Ecology.
"This year, the Plus X Award Night is being held for the third time in the Cologne exhibition center. This is not only yet another reason that shows just how comfortable the creative minds feel here in Cologne, but is also a good indication of how well the Plus X Award collaborates with Koelnmesse. Each time it has been held, the Award Night has been one of the most impressive events in the range of event programs we have to offer", said the Chief Executive Officer of the Koelnmesse Gerald Böse in his opening speech.
The Texas Rangers contracted Keyframe to produce creative content for their video displays, including four new Daktronics displays, in Rangers Ballpark in Arlington for the 2009 baseball season. Content was delivered and on display during the Rangers home opener on April 6th versus the Cleveland Indians.
"We've worked with Keyframe in the past so it was a natural choice for us to work with them this year," said Chuck Morgan of the Texas Rangers. "They (Keyframe) have worked with many other ball clubs, have a good idea of what people like and know what it takes to produce for a major league game. They're easy to work with, understand what we need and turn it around quickly."
Content provided came in the form of statistical layouts, crowd prompts, sponsor ads, a unique look for the outfield fence display, backgrounds, colors, fonts and text. All of which gelled together to form an overall home field appearance for the Rangers.
Morgan spoke of the content produced by Keyframe: "It was outstanding. It changed the entire atmosphere of the ballpark. They included tons of information on our out-of-town board and outfield fence board that looks great."
Work with the Rangers began in February with everything being completed in time for the home opener. Keyframe is still in the process of creating more content to enhance the home game experience at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.
A place for reflection on stereoscopic images, the International Forum on 3D Images also offers great entertainment This year, thanks to the giant steps made in 3D technologies, visitors will be able to witness incredible images and events. Some of the high-profile contents will be for professionals only, but members of the public won't be left aside!
