730 Gathered in the Southeast's Game Development Hotbed for Triangle Game Initiative's Inaugural Event, TGC 2010 Dates Set for April 7-8

RALEIGH, N.C., May 13, 2009 -- Leaders in entertainment software, game technology, serious games and games research gathered in Raleigh, N.C. April 29-30 for the inaugural Triangle Game Conference (TGC) hosted by the Triangle Game Initiative, a trade association for the Raleigh-Durham interactive entertainment industry. The conference showcased the region's depth and breadth as the East Coast leader in game development in a two-day event featuring industry-leading companies, including Epic Games, Insomniac Games, Red Storm Entertainment, Atomic Games, Themis Media and Emergent Game Technologies. More than 730 attended the event, nearly doubling attendance expectations of conference organizers.

Set in the third largest gaming hub in the U.S. and the game engine capital of the world, the conference helped further advance the Triangle's game development cluster by providing a forum for networking and collaboration with top industry experts. Representatives from leading game engine companies including Epic Games, the largest game studio in the area and developer of the Unreal Engine, and Emergent Game Technologies, maker of Gamebryo LightSpeed, were present to interact with students and professionals looking to build careers in the gaming business.

"The conference attracted national and international attention with folks travelling from as far as the West Coast and Europe to be a part of the event," said Alexander Macris, TGC program director and president and CEO of Themis Media. "The inaugural TGC far exceeded our expectations and we're looking forward to adding additional conference elements that will bring even more value to attendees next year."

TGC also earned the support of local government officials, including Raleigh Mayor Charles Meeker, North Carolina State House Representative Ty Harrell and Wake County Manager David Cooke, who hope the event casts light on the growth potential for the video game industry in North Carolina.

"The game industry is booming despite the recession and North Carolina has a unique opportunity to stake a claim in its global market," said Ty Harrell, North Carolina State House Representative and Chair of the House Committee on Science and Technology. "Interactive entertainment is a vital piece of the entertainment industry and game development is the perfect complement to Wake County's knowledge-based economy. The Triangle's technology, research and healthcare industries combined with the gaming technology curriculum the area colleges and universities offer will allow this industry to thrive and grow."

TGC 2009 highlights included:
* Keynote lectures from Epic Games President Dr. Michael Capps and Atomic Games President Peter Tamte
* Lectures and panels from 66 speakers
* More than twenty companies exhibiting their latest games and innovations
* A career fair and "Game Development University," a student-oriented exhibition to help aspiring game developers tap into educational resources and make connections with industry leaders
