Nonprofit educational organization Sesame Workshop has promoted Martha Van Gelder to the newly created position of Sr VP, Int’l. She will be responsible for the overall international strategy across divisions including television production, public policy and education and research. Reporting to COO Mel Ming, she will also oversee country managers who will be assigned to specific territories.
Most recently, Van Gelder served as group VP of Int’l Television and Licensing, overseeing the Workshop’s television sales and distribution, as well as consumer product licensing activities outside the U.S. She has also held the title of regional VP, Asia and Latin America, and was responsible for the company’s television and licensing activities.
Prior to joining the Workshop, Van Gelder served as exec. director of Buena Vista Home Entertainment. Prior to The Walt Disney Company, she worked at Redken Laboratories as group manager of int’l marketing, overseeing market development based in both Hong Kong and California. In this role, she worked on their joint venture in China, and managed both consumer marketing and subsidiary and distributor support for Australia, Europe, Canada and South East Asia.
