Imageworks Brings On Award-winning Supervisors
Tim Sarnoff, president of Sony Pictures Imageworks, has announced the addition of award-winning visual effects supervisors Mark Stetson, Kevin Mack and Richard Hoover. They join a team which already boasts an impressive roster industry pros including Ken Ralston, John Dykstra, Rob Legato, Jerome Chen, Scott Stokdyk, Jim Berney, Jay Redd, Carey Villegas, Sheena Duggal, Eric Armstrong and Anthony LaMolinara.
Stetson, who is supervising the production of visual effects for Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, won the Academy Award and the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Award in 2002 for visual effects on The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. He began his career in visual effects with Star Trek: The Motion Picture and went on to work on such films as Blade Runner, The Right Stuff, 2010, Ghostbusters and Die Hard. He made his debut as a visual effects supervisor on director Luc Besson’s The Fifth Element, for which he won his first BAFTA Award.
Working with director McG.; Mack will supervise the production of visual effects for Big Fish with director Tim Burton. The Academy Award winner (Best Visual Effects, What Dreams May Come) supervised the effects on Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas and continued his creative and collaborative relationship with director Ron Howard on the Academy Award-winning A Beautiful Mind. He also served as digital effects art director on the Academy Award-nominated Apollo 13. Other credits include Fight Club, Vanilla Sky, Red Corner and The Island of Dr. Moreau.
Hoover, in production on Darkness Falls with director Jonathan Liebesman, is an Academy Award-nominated visual effects supervisor who was associated with Dream Quest Images and The Secret Lab for more than 10 years. Most recently, Hoover was visual effects supervisor on Reign of Fire for director Rob Bowman. He previously served as visual effects supervisor on Unbreakable for director M. Night Shyamalan and Inspector Gadget for director David Kellogg and producer Jordan Kerner. Other credits include Armageddon, Jungle to Jungle and Freejack.
The additions come as Imageworks completes its most successful year to date, having created effects for Stuart Little 2, Spider-Man, and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.
