Canadian studio Fatkat Animation has closed its doors.
Company founder Gene Fowler confirmed the demise of the Miramichi, New Brunswick, studio on the company blog.
Formed 10 years ago by a crew that had worked at Helix Animation in Halifax, Fatkat produced many commercials and interactive spots. It also worked on series such as Skunk Fu!, Chaotic and SuperNormal.
Fowler writes that the ‘demanding and tortuous’ production on the series Three Delivery combined with the Canadian government pulling its funding for the studio was the reason for Fatkat’s demise.
Fowler says he is working with several Fatkat alumni to start a new studio in Miramichi called Loogaroo, and he expects to hire as many ex-Fatkat artists as possible.
