John Riccitiello has stepped down from the post of president and COO of video game publisher Electronic Arts. The resignation is effective immediately but Riccitiello will remain with the company for a transition period.
Riccitiello was responsible for global publishing, online and other corporate departments. Company CEO Larry Probst will assume responsibility for those duties While EA evaluates replacement candidates.
“My time at EA was the best work experience in my life,” Riccitiello comments. “Personally, it is time to do something different and I intend to start a private equity business. I’m leaving EA when the company is enriched with the best people, the best properties and a very bright future.”
Electronic Arts, headquartered in Redwood City, Calif., markets its products under the brand names EA Sports, EA Games and EA Sports Big, and also has an online game site at www.ea.com.
