Disney TV Int’l Names New Programming VP

Walt Disney Television International (WDTV-I) has promoted Disney Channel Germany managing director Michael Kreissl to VP of programming and production for WDTV-I – Europe, Middle East and Africa. Kreissl will report directly to John Hardie, Sr. VP and managing director of Walt Disney Branded Television – Europe, Middle East and Africa. Hardie and will maintain his position and responsibilities of managing director of the German Channel.

In this new role, Kreissl will oversee the planning of programming schedules and production for eight Disney Channels (France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Portugal, Scandinavia, U.K. and Middle East) in addition to 42 Disney branded blocks across 32 countries. Kreissl will take responsibility for WDTV-I’s original production, including such hit shows as Art Attack and award-winning short form programming totalling almost 1,500 hours.

Kreissl, an Austrian national, has a 20-year background in television, including four years as programming director at German music channel Viva and five years as head of youth programming at Austria’s public broadcaster, ORF. In 1999, Kreissl joined Disney and helped launch the German Channel. He became managing director a year later.
