Corus Ent. Inc. announced that it will combine the operations of Nelvana and its television division into one integrated unit under the leadership of Paul Robertson.
Robertson, who previously served as president of Corus Television, takes over for Michael Hirsh, who stepped down as ceo of Nelvana two weeks ago.
"When we sold the company to Corus, I agreed to stay on for a period of time," Hirsh told Animation Magazine Online. "It was time to organize the transition to the next generation of management."
In addition to Robertson, that next generation of management includes Peter Moss, promoted to exec. vp of development, and Emmanuele Petry, promoted to sr. vp, International. Emmy Award-winning animation producer Scott Dyer (Rolie Polie Olie) will continue to serve as exec. vp responsible for all Nelvana production.
The Nelvana executive team will be rounded out by a senior position focused on the commercial aspects of Nelvana. The yet to be filled position will involve responsibility for all sales, marketing, publishing, consumer products and brand building.
Prior to his tenure at Corus Ent., Robertson was president of Canada’s YTV. He has also served as president of Baton Broadcast Sales and sr. vp of programming and marketing for CTV Television Network Ltd.
Building on its library of internationally recognized animation properties like Babar, Little Bear and Franklin, Nelvana plans to produce 150 new episodes for this fiscal year.
