Rodolphe Belmer, formerly director of development at Canal Plus, will be chief operational officer for the pay-TV arm of French media and telecommunications company Vivendi Universal, replacing Guillaume de’Verges on the first of December.
Verges reportedly requested a workload reduction for health reasons. He will now supervise Studio Canal, the movie-production branch that also distributes such animated fare as Jacques-R’my Girerd’s 2D La prophétie des Grenouilles (Raining Cats and Frogs), scheduled to debut in France in early December.
Canal Plus broadcasts kids’ animated shows such as Ca Cartoon, as well as Fox’s The Simpsons. Now, after a several-year decline, and with third-quarter revenues down 17% from last year at 969 million euros, Vivendi is looking to Belmer to build Canal Plus’ content and subscription base.
