Anime News Network is reporting the death of Satoshi Kon, director of the anime feature films Millennium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers, Paranoia Agent and Paprika. He was 47.
The site reports news came from staff members at the Otakon convention, who later confirmed Kon’s passing with Studio Madhouse co-founder Masao Maruyama.
Kon began as a manga artist in the early 1990s, working on the title Kaikisen. He transitioned into anime through music videos and anthologies before making his first feature, Perfect Blue, in 1997.
Kon was working on a new feature for Madhouse titled Yume-Miru Kikai at the time of his death.
