Speed Racer RC Cars Get Green Light

Fans of the classic Speed Racer animated television series will soon be able to make their favorite race cars go. Speed Racer Enterprises has entered into a multi-year licensing agreement with Master Toys & Novelties to produce radio control cars based on the property. This marks the first time radio control vehicles have been developed for Speed Racer since Tatsuo Yoshida’s series went into syndication in 1967.

Master Toys is leading off their program with Speed Racer’s supercharged 1:18 and 1:64 scale radio control Mach 5 vehicles to be followed by a 1:43 scale Mach 5 Speed Hopper that utilizes its famous Auto Jacks function. The first Mach 5 will be released in October 2003 and sold in multiple channels of distribution.

"We have a lot of confidence in Master Toy’s ability to faithfully recreate these awesome radio control cars based on the famous Speed Racer vehicles," said James Rocknowski, exec. VP of Speed Racer Enterprises. "It’s a first for the fans of Speed Racer and this product category is a natural."

"Kids, adults and collectors have waited over 35 years for these Speed Racer radio control vehicles to be made," adds Ernie Wong, exec. VP of Master Toys. "We have paid close attention to the details of the vehicles, starting with the Mach 5. We want to make sure the fans of the classic show will be floored!"

Master Toys and Novelties Inc. is located in Los Angeles and has been a manufacturer, direct importer and wholesaler of toys, dolls, novelty gift items and die-cast metal cars for more than 28 years.

Speed Racer Enterprises Inc., formed in 1991, owns all rights to the Speed Racer animated series. The company also manages all related licensing and promotional activities on a worldwide basis. More information about Speed Racer can be found at www.speedracer.com.
