SEGA Puts Game in Happy Meals

July 2, 2003 by Ryan Ball divider image

SEGA’s popular Sonic The Hedgehog and Super Monkey Ball characters have a few new games out, but you won’t find them at your local video game retailer. The little hand-held electronic games are showing up in McDonald’s Happy Meals and will be available though July 24 at participating restaurants.

The six different games come in a variety of colors and include the racing title Sonic The Hedgehog Speedway, the skateboarding challenge Shadow Grinder, the goal-tending competition Knuckles Soccer, the obstacle course-based Sonic The Hedgehog Action Game, the catching game AiAi Banana Catch and the high-flying ring grab Tails Sky Patrol.

According to MacDonald’s, this is the first time a quick-service retailer has offered electronic games as a premium. The games are small enough to fit in a child’s palm and are so simple even an adult can play them.
