The Polar Express Experience has opened at SeaWorld in Orlando, Fla., allowing fans of the Warner Bros./Shangri-La Ent. performance-capture CG holiday film to take their own magical trip to the North Pole. The park’s Wild Arctic attraction has been transformed into an expedition to Santa Town and will continue to take passengers to the fabled destination through Jan. 1.
‘SeaWorld Orlando, Warner Bros. and Iwerks have created a one-of-a-kind motion simulation experience that combines one of the holiday’s most beloved movies with an actual winter wonderland,’ says Michael Fletcher, VP of entertainment for SeaWorld. ‘The result will completely immerse guests into a thrilling combination of fantasy and reality.’
Based on the movie and the Caldecott Medal-winning children’s book by Chris Van Allsburg, the adventure attraction begins with a three-minute preshow telling the story of a young boy who is jolted out of bed by the thunderous roar of The Polar Express arriving to take him on a fascinating adventure to the North Pole. Guests then board the magical locomotive themselves as classic scenes from the movie are recreated in a multi-sensory experience complete with polar animals.
