Nickelodeon will go from being a broadcast destination to a vacation destination as well when Marriott International, Viacom’s MTV Networks and Miller Global Properties LLC open Nickelodeon Resorts by Marriott. A total of 20 hotels may be under construction by 2020, with Miller Global retaining certain exclusive rights to develop and own the resorts in specified geographic areas.
The first “Nickelodeon Resorts by Marriott” property is expected to be a 650-room resort at Liberty Station in San Diego, Calif., which will incorporate a 100,000 square-foot water park and activity deck complex featuring a variety of pools and interactive attractions. Designed by international architectural firm Gensler, the facility is expected to break ground in January 2008 and open in early 2010. Other potential locations include major family-oriented destinations in the U.S., the Caribbean, Mexico, the U.K. and other parts of Europe, as well as Asia, Australia and the Middle East.
In addition to state-of-the-art pools and some indoor water parks, Nickelodeon Resorts by Marriott will offer live entertainment programs featuring popular costumed Nickelodeon characters including Dora the Explorer and SpongeBob SquarePants. Guests will also be able to dine in the NickToons Caf’, which will offer daily “character” breakfasts and special evening events.
