Mattel Takes Spin with RollBots

Major toymaker Mattel Inc. has signed on to produce toys and various other products based on Amberwood Ent.’s CG-animated series RollBots. The action-comedy show for kids 6-11 is commissioned by Canada’s YTV, a division of Corus Entertainment Inc. An initial order of 26 half hours is currently in production.

Based on an original idea by Michael Milligan, RollBots revolves around perfectly round robots that roll at extreme speeds on roller-coaster type tracks through Flip City, a community that contains 11 different tribes of rollbots.

‘We are looking forward to working with Amberwood Ent. on this new and unique television property,’ says Holly Stein, VP of licensing acquisitions, Mattel Brands. ‘RollBots has many of the necessary characteristics to become a great new entry in the kids market and our partnership brings us the opportunity to work together to create engaging and innovative products that bring the property’s unique features and storylines to life.’

Amberwood is a producer, financier and distributor of animated and live-action television series, specials and features. The company’s other animated properties include The Secret World of Benjamin Bear, Hoze Houndz and Katie & Orbie.
