U.K.-based rights holder Spellbound Ent. has granted Hasbro Inc. an international toy license for its new pre-school property, The Koala Brothers. The deal covers merchandise categories such as plush toys, figurines, play sets and Play-Doh, with the first items slated to debut in stores next year.
The Koala Brothers follows the adventures of koala bears Frank and Buster, who devote themselves to helping others in the Australian outback. It will make its BBC premiere later this year and has also been pre-sold to the BBC in the U.K., Disney Channel in the U.S., Super RTL in Germany, ABC in Australia, and TV Ontario and Knowledge Network in Canada.
Spellbound is handling all TV and home entertainment distribution, Publishing and Licensing for the stop-motion animated series, which was first launched at MIP TV 2003 and will be available in 52×10 or 26×230 packages.
Spellbound Ent. was launched last year by former HIT exec. Peter Curtis and ex-Endemol exec. Nick Barrington.
