While mice and rats are certainly not welcome at Burger King restaurants, hamsters are another story. ShoPro Ent.’s Hamtaro and the Ham- Hams, stars of the hit Cartoon Network show Hamtaro, will be showing up in Burger King kids’ meals at participating restaurants this month. The loveable and courageous rodents appear as themselves or masquerading in full Halloween garb as specially created toys in throughout North America from Oct. 6 through Nov. 2.
Burger King Corp. developed eight versatile Hamtaro toys. Hamtaro himself, along with pals Penelope, Bijou, Panda, Boss, Oxnard, Elder Ham and Cappy, are featured exactly as they appear on the Hamtaro series and can change into disguises appropriate for the trick-or-treat season.
The Ham-Ham costumes actually inspired the show’s producers to create a special Hamtaro Halloween episode, which will air in prime time on Cartoon Network Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. and Oct. 30 at 8:30 p.m. "Ham-Ham Halloween" features the hamsters wearing the same costumes as the Burger King toys.
The anime favorite Hamtaro tells the story of hero Hamtaro and his good-natured band of hamster friends. Each episode features the little hamsters having big adventures as they misinterpret the world of their human guardians and eventually figure it all out.
In Japan, Hamtaro is one of the most popular children’s properties and has generated more than $3 billion in sales since its launch on TV Tokyo in July 2000. ShoPro Ent’s other properties include Inuyasha, Corrector Yui and MegaMan: NT Warrior.
