Just in time for Comic-Con, the new, free Futurama Head-In-A-Jar Creator app will open a new world of cool digital possibilities to iPhone, iPod Touch and Android fans all over the world. Today (Wednesday, July 11) at 10:30 p.m., during a live post-show streamed on cc.com, series creator Matt Groening will announce the launch of the latest “Futurama Head-In-A-Jar Creator” app.
The free app, which was already available on iOS, is now also available for Android users and is loaded with a wealth of additional features. Futurama Live! will stream on Comedy Central’s Futurama page, the show’s Facebook page and Ustream.
In response to fan demand, the creators developed a new Decapodian head-shaped Dr. Zoidberg in addition to the plethora of existing head-shaped offerings for all four species. Other highlights include new backgrounds from the current summer season, additional accessories such as the Brain Slug, expanded name-plate features, more eye, nose and hair options and an updated Robot color palette. The app allows users to jump into the animated world of Futurama and create their own customized characters. Users can choose from a male or female human, robot or alien, and customize many traits including the eyes, nose, hair, blemishes and background. Original artwork and sound design were created by the Futurama team specifically for the app.
Futurama Live!, the first live-stream chat from the team behind the brilliantly subversive animated sci-fi comedy, will feature Matt Groening, creator and executive producer, along with fellow executive producer David X. Cohen and cast members Billy West, John DiMaggio and Maurice LaMarche as they take part in a half-hour discussion on Wednesday, July 11 at 10:30 p.m., following the airing of that night’s episode, “Zapp Dingbat.”
Futurama airs on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. on Comedy Central. The series returned with 13 new half-hour episodes on June 20.
