Carlton Int’l to Re-launch Captain Scarlet Licensing
As Gerry Anderson sets about remaking his classic Supermarionation series Captain Scarlet in CG, Carlton Int’l says it will be managing the development of a range of new licensed product to tie in with the new show, which is slated for completion by mid-2005.
Although it will substitute puppetry with computer animation, the new series will follow the original idea of a futuristic battle between man and a mysterious, invisible alien race known as the Mysterons.
While the cast of characters will be familiar to fans of the original show, Carlton tells us they will be altered to "be more reflective of today’s society and greater equality of the sexes." For instance, lead character Lieutenant Green, Colonel White’s right hand, has been cast as a woman.
The Carlton Consumer Division will be handling all video/DVD opportunities as well as a full cross-category range of merchandise led by an interactive deal to be commissioned by Gerry Anderson. The company will be discussing concepts with key licensees at London’s Brand Licensing Show.
