DIC Holds Speed Racer
Pink Slip
According to The Hollywood Reporter,
DIC Entertainment has picked up worldwide TV distribution, licensing
and merchandising rights to Speed Racer, the popular Japanese
animated series that mixes international intrigue with sport racing.
Under the deal, DIC acquires 65 original
half-hour episodes, as well as 34 new adventures. Nickelodeon is
currently airing 13 of those new installments on its Sunday afternoon
Slam block.
Speed Racer aired in syndication
for nearly 20 years in the U.S., beginning in 1967. MTV revived
it in the 90s before it made its way to Cartoon Network and
Nickelodeon.
