Atom Films has posted the finalists in this year’s official Star Wars Fan Film Awards. Among the crop of 20 fan-produced spoofs and tributes are many animated entries, incuding Adam Hasting’s Barn Wars, in which the climactic battle from Phantom Menace is reenacted by chickens on a farm.
Other animated fan flicks include Nickolas Leonhardt’s Imperial News, a 2D goof featuring a late-breaking report on the death of Jabba the Hut, and Andreas Peterson’s Wampa, which depicts the fierce snow beast of Hoth as a misunderstood, gentle giant who just wants to make friends with Luke Skywalker.
Viewers can go to http://atomfilms.shockwave.com/af/spotlight/collections/starwars to see each film and vote for their favorites. The winning film will receive the Audience Choice Award and the filmmaker will earn a special trophy and the right to brag to friends. Voting ends July 13 and winners will be announced at a special Lucasfilm ceremony at Comic-Con in San Diego, Calif., on July 22.
Best in Show honors will be decided by franchise creator George Lucas himself. One lucky filmmaker will win prizes including $2,000 in cash and a custom Fan Film Awards trophy.
There is also a special category for toon entries. The Animation Award wil be presented by Code 3 Collectibles with the winner taking home a custom Fan Film Awards trophy, $500 in cash and a $500 gift certificate to shop at StarWarsShop.com. In addition, a $1,000 cash prize is reserved for the winner of the Spirit of Fandom Award, to be presented by Star Wars merchandiser the Anthony Grandio Co.
