Sony Pictures Classics, which acquired the U.S distribution rights to writer/director Sylvain Chomets Les Triplettes de Belleville, has launched an English language web site for the film.
In the March issue of Animation Magazine, we visited Chomet at his studio and talked to him about his animated masterpiece. Now you can go to www.sonyclassics.com/triplets/ and learn more about the film and its makers at Les Armateurs. The site features interviews with Chomet, animation and EFX director Pieter Van Houte, animation supervisor Jean Christophe Lie, music director Benoît Charest and production designer Evgeni Tomov. Theres a downloadable trailer, a full press kit, a synopsis of the story, an image gallery and a list of credits.
Being released theatrically in North America on Nov. 21 as The Triplets of Belleville, the film tells the story of a lonely little boy who finds joy on a bicycle and grows up to become a cycling champion. When he his kidnapped by the French mafia, his grandmother, Madame Souza, sets off across the ocean to a megalopolis called Belleville (a thinly disguised America) to rescue him. There, she meets the title trio of former music hall stars who help her in her quest. Aside from one line at the beginning and one line at the end, the story is told completely without dialogue.
