Hit animated shows such as South Park, Beavis & Butt-Head, SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer are now available for purchase and download in the iTunes Music Store via a new deal between MTV Networks and Apple. The agreement makes Dora the first preschool program available on iTunes (www.itunes.com).
MTV Networks outlets included in the deal are MTV, MTV2, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon and The N. In all 14 shows will be offered online, including the MTV reality series Punk’d, Laguna Beach and Real World/Road Rules Challenge: Gauntlet 2, as well as MTV2’s toon-infused Wonder Showzen, Comedy Central’s Stand-Up, Nickelodoen’s Zoey 101 and The N’s South of Nowhere. Each can be downloaded to a computer of iPod for $1.99 per episode.
According to Eddy Cue, Apple’s VP of iTunes, the company has sold more than eight million videos. That segment of the download business was recently bolstered by the release of the Video iPod, which allows users to download and view video content anytime, anywhere.
In addition to episodes of popular TV shows, The iTunes Music Store features a selection of more than 3,000 music videos and short animated films from Pixar, Disney and independent producers.
