For those who thought the teaser trailer for Peter Jackson’s remake of King Kong left a little something to be desired, the full trailer can now be downloaded at www.kongisking.net, the film’s official production site. TVNZ aired the trailer in New Zealand and Access Hollywood will give North American viewers a first look tonight before it hits Apple.com and KingKong.com.
Jackson’s three-hour take on the classic giant ape story will arrive in theaters on Dec. 14 and promises to be one of the biggest hits of the year. In addition to an all-star cast including Naomi Watts, Jack Black and Adrian Brody, the pic boasts visual effects by New Zealand-based companies Weta Digital and Weta Workshop, recipients of multiple Academy Awards for their collective work on the Lord of the Rings saga. While CG animation brings the title primate and his prehistoric combatants to life, digital elements and miniatures supplement practical locations in creating primordial jungles and New York City in the 1930s.
The folks at Weta have apparently been busy since the first trailer hit, considering how the animation in certain shots look very different this time around. And while you’re checking out the new footage at www.kongisking.net, you can also download the entries in Jackson’s video diary, which chronicles the production process in great detail. The entire diary will be released on DVD by Universal Studios Home Entertainment as a deluxe collector’s gift set on Dec. 13, one day before the feature debuts on the big screen.
