Grand Day Out For Wallace & Gromit On AtomFilms

November 8, 2002 by Ryan Ball divider image

AtomFilms has announced that the Oct. 15 debut of Cracking Contraptions, the new series of Wallace & Gromit animated shorts, debuted with the best sales day ever among AtomShockwave’s catalog of more than 50 downloadable entertainment titles.

The stop motion animated duo of Wallace and Gromit first gained notoriety with the 1989 Oscar-nominated short A Grand Day Out, and became a bona fide cult hit with the Oscar-winning follow-ups The Wrong Trousers (1993) and A Close Shave (1995).

The 10 new brief adventures mark the first appearance in seven years from the neurotic English inventor and his precocious dog pal. Produced by Nick Park for Aardman Animations, each installment of Cracking Contraptions is a comedy of errors featuring another brilliant Wallace invention.

After paying a one-time fee of $9.95, subscribers can gain instant access to all 10 episodes and a special "making of” feature. The series is delivered exclusively in the Windows Media video format, with digital-rights-management services provided by SyncCast.

Cracking Contraptions even surpassed sales of 2001’s online game of the year, Collapse, just one of AtomShockwave’s many game titles.
