According to Reuters, online movie service CinemaNow has inked a distribution deal with Twentieth Century Fox, whose properties include Ice Age and Daredevil. Despite concerns over online movie piracy, Fox joins Universal Pictures, Warner Bros. and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer as a CinemaNow partner.
CinemaNow, based in the Los Angeles suburb of Marina Del Ray, is majority-owned by independent film company Lions Gate Ent. Corp. with investment partners that include Microsoft Corp. and Blockbuster Inc. The company reportedly uses its own digital rights management and encryption software called PatchBay.
Before hooking up with CinemaNow, Fox was looking into starting a similar service with The Walt Disney Co.
