Lucasfilm Ltd. has teamed with web technology company Eyespot to relaunch the official Star Wars web site, which will include a ‘mash-up’ feature that allows fans to maker their own films using assets from the space saga. Launching on Friday, May 25, the redesigned site will also offer access to hundreds of live-action and animated Star Wars fan videos in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the blockbuster feature film franchise.
‘We want the new StarWars.com to empower fans to make and watch Star Wars videos, play games and share their love of Star Wars like no other site on the Internet,’ says Bill Gannon, director of online operations for Lucasfilm Ltd.
Developed by Eyespot, the online video-editing tool gives fans the ability to add their own video shots to more than 250 scenes and music selections taken from all six films and create unique Star Wars movies to share with others. These will be offered along with a plethora of previously submitted fan films, including five years worth of shorts from the annual Star Wars Fan Movie Festival, co-presented by AtomFilms.com, and others that have never been released on the web.
