Buena Vista Pay Television has reached an agreement with Movielink to make movies released by The Walt Disney Company available online for the very first time. The deal covers new releases and select library titles from Walt Disney Pictures, Touchstone, Miramax and Dimension to be made available for secure download on the Movielink service.
Disney is the sixth major studio to agree to provide content to Movielink, which launched eight months ago. The Disney additions will bring the online movie download service’s catalog to 400 titles.
Among the first titles to be available at Movielink are The Jungle Book 2 and Monsters, Inc., as well as Academy Award winner Chicago, Gangs of New York, The Recruit, 25th Hour, Frida and The Rookie.
After downloading movies from Movielink, customers can store movies for up to 30 days. Once play is initiated, a movie can be watched repeatedly within a 24-hour period. Downloads range between $2.95 and $4.99. Accessing the service requires a broadband connection and a PC with Windows 98, ME, 2000 or XP and the latest versions of either the Real Networks RealOne player or the Windows Media player.
