Bandai, Microsoft to Stream Toons

Bandai Co. and Microsoft Corp. have joined forces to offer a global on-demand video streaming service that will begin webcasting cartoons in South Korea in November, according to the Dow Jones Business News. The service will expand to Europe, North America and other parts of Asia beginning in 2004.

The program will stream encrypted animated content through local Internet service providers via Microsoft’s Windows Media Digital Rights Management 9 video transmission and reproduction software.

Bandai began streaming content over broadband connections in Japan in October 2002. Among its 55 offerings are episodes of the popular kids’ anime series Gundam and the EFX-heavy live-action favorite Power Rangers.
