Released on Tuesday, the third season of The Simpsons is doing brisk business, coming in at No. 4 behind two versions of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and Best Picture Oscar winner Chicago. The DVD release of Fox’s animated series ranks even higher on Amazon.com’s list of top sellers, landing at No. 3 behind the Widescreen Edition and the Platinum Series Extended Edition of The Two Towers.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the double-disc DVD is selling 100% faster than the Season 1 release and around 20% faster than Season 2, selling through nearly 40% of its initial shipment of 500,000 DVD units.

DVD releases of animated shows are proving lucrative for Twentieth Century Fox Home Video. The Family Guy Vol. 1 took the industry by surprise with its sales figures and pre-orders of Vol. 2 (Season 3), which hits stores this coming Tuesday, have placed it at No. 11 on Amazon.com’s top seller’s list.
