Consumers are apparently having no trouble finding Nemo at their local retailers. Having busted box office records over the summer, the Disney/Pixar animated blockbuster went on to set a day-one home video sales record on Tuesday.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Finding Nemo sold an estimated 8 million combined DVD and VHS units on its first day out of the gate, putting total revenues for sales and rentals at around $150 million. That was good enough to beat Disney’s and Pixar’s own Monsters Inc., which previously held the first day record with 7 million units sold.
Nemo also knocked Universal’s The Hulk out of the top spot on the sales and rental charts. The EFX-laden Marvel comic adaptation grabbed around $10.8 million in its first five days on shelves. Nemo numbers are expected to soar even higher this weekend.
