Finding Nemo Soundtrack Surfaces
A week before Disney/Pixar’s latest CG feature film hits theaters, the original motion picture soundtrack for Finding Nemo will land in stores. The release highlights the work of composer Thomas Newman whose cousin, Randy Newman, created memorable songs for the Disney/Pixar collaborations Toy Story, Toy Story 2 and Monsters, Inc.
Written and directed by Oscar nominee Andrew Stanton, Finding Nemo marks Newman’s first foray into composing for an animated feature film. A Grammy winner and Oscar-nominated composer, his credits include Road to Perdition, American Beauty, The Shawshank Redemption, The Player and the title theme to the HBO series Six Feet Under.
Also featured on the soundtrack is Brit rocker Robbie Williams’ version of Beyond the Sea, taken from his 2001 release Swing When You’re Winning. The song, which Bobby Darin originally made famous, captures the mystical nature of life underwater.
The film follows a comedic and harrowing journey of two fish – Marlin (Albert Brooks) and his son Nemo (Alexander Gould) – who become separated in the Great Barrier Reef when Nemo is unexpectedly taken far from home and thrust into a fish tank in a dentist’s office overlooking Sydney harbor. The star-studded voice cast also includes Ellen DeGeneres, Willem DaFoe, Brad Garrett, Allison Janney, Geoffrey Rush and John Ratzenberger.
The soundtrack is scheduled for release on May 20 on Walt Disney Records. It will be joined on shelves by the Finding Nemo CD read-along. Disney/Pixar’s Finding Nemo opens in theatres nationwide on May 30.
