Di Bona, Devil’s Due Team for Comics

Vin di Bona, the successful television producer behind America’s Funniest Home Videos and other shows, has formed Invisible Hand Studios and is teaming with Devil’s Due Publishing to launch a series of comic books. According to Daily Variety, the partnership will develop properties for possible film and TV adaptation. The first comic, a sci-fi thriller titled Serpo, will debut in August.

Serpo revisits the mystery of the Roswell crash as a newspaper reporter uncovers details of an interplanetary exchange program and investigates why only eight of the 12 Americans sent to the planet Serpo returned. The graphic novel is being written by Jason Burns and illustrated by Joe Eisma. Burns is also writing a comic titled D.O.L. for the unit. That one will center on a pair of overzealous collectors of overdue library books who inadvertently save the world.

Invisible Hands and Devil’s Due are also set to launch The Odd Squad, a supernatural dramedy about a rag-tag team of paranormal investigators who form a government entity dubbed The Office of Dimensional Defense.Written by Nick Capetanakis and Todd Livingston, the comic will feature artwork by Brendon and Brian Fraim.

Di Bona made his first foray into comics earlier this year with the debut of Urban Monsters, published by Image Comics. Created by Andrew Stroscher, the comic involves a beastman, a satyr, a fish-man and a zombie who undertake a cross-country road trip. Writing duties are handled by Will Wilson and Joanne Moore, with art by Tone Rodriguez.
