ADV Films has acquired the home-video distribution rights to DIC Ent.’s animated series Super Duper Sumos. The distributor plans to release a total of six volumes, the first of which, Super Duper Sumos: They’ve Got Guts, will be available on DVD and VHS Feb. 4, 2003.

Having put a stranglehold on BBC audiences, Super Duper Sumos now airs on Nickelodeon in the U.S. The series revolves around Mamoo, Boomer and Kimo, three 18-year-old, thousand-pound sumo wrestlers confused by the modern world but possessing ancient sumo powers that help them defeat evil.

Super Duper Sumos: They’ve Got Guts will contain the first five episodes of the series: “Binky Did a Bad, Bad Thing,” “Seven Sumorai,” “Basho Crasho Sumos,” “The Incredible Shrinking Butt” and “Dance of the Sugar Plum Sumos.” The English-language release will retail for $16.98 DVD and $11.98 VHS.
