If the summer has left you feeling deprived of quality cartoons, then be sure to check out A Town Called Panic (Zeitgeist Films, $29.99), one of the best-reviewed animated features of the past year.

The feature film version of the popular French stop-motion series, the DVD features bonus materials including a new anamorphic transfer created from new HD elements; a 52-minute behind-the-scenes documentary; interviews with directors Vincent Patar and Stephane Aubier; a new short film; deleted scenes; test shot comparisons; photo gallery; and the United States theatrical trailer.

This film received only a limited theatrical release and is worth seeing, so if you can’t find it at your local video store go to the source at http://www.zeitgeistfilms.com/videocatalog/product_info.php?products_id=159.

Also out this week, just in time for Comic-Con in San Diego, is Super Friends: Season 1, Vol. 2 (Warner Bros., $26.99), collecting eight one-hour episodes from the earliest days of the 1970s TV classic.

Younger fans will surely want to check out Courage the Cowardly Dog: Season 1 (Warner Bros., $24.98), featuring 13 half-hour episodes of the Cartoon Network series.

Anime fans can edge ever closer to the conclusion with Bleach Vol. 30 (VIZ Media, $24.92), as well as a new-to-HD Legends of the Dark Kings: Fist of the North Star (ADV, $69.98 Blu-ray).

For kids, there’s Caillou: Caillou’s Fun Outside! (Paramount, $14.99) and Martha Speaks: Martha Goes To School (Paramount, $14.99).
