X2 Mutates to Video

Having raked in $215 million at the North American box office over the summer, Marvel’s mutant squad known as the X-Men test their powers on DVD and VHS as Warner Bros. Home Video today releases X-2: X-Men United. Included are plenty of X-tras, including behind-the-scenes looks at the film’s impressive visual effects.

Widely regarded as an improvement over the first X-Men feature, X2 reunites the cast and unites friends and foes to combat a military leader out to settle a score by destroying all mutants. Alan Cumming joins the cast as Nightcrawler, a mutant assassin who provides one of the film’s best EFX sequences. Cinesite, Rhythm & Hues, Frantic Films, Kleiser-Walczak, Grant McCune Design and FXSmith all contribute to the movie magic.

Bonus materials on the X2 double disc include commentary by director Bryan Singer and cinematographer Tom Sigel; a second commentary with X2’s writers and producers; 11 new featurettes including a behind-the-scenes look at the Wolverine and Lady Deathstrike fight rehearsal, an interactive multi-angle scene of Nightcrawler’s opening attack on the President; and 11 deleted/extended scenes.

The release retails for $29.98 DVD, $22.98 VHS. Fans can also pick up X-Men Collection, a DVD set containing both the original X-Men and and X2 with bonus materials on each, which retails for the suggested price of $39.98.
