Water Babies, Dragonball Z, Dora Hit DVD

Today sees the DVD release of MGM’s obscure 1978 live-action/animated family flick The Water Babies. Though largely forgotten, some fondly recall this magical story of an apprentice chimney sweep who goes on the run after being wrongly accused of thievery. He falls into a pool of water and is sucked into an enchanted animated underwater world populated by fantastic characters and creatures. Tom must eventually decide whether to return to the human world or remain in the realm of the Water Babies. The film, directed by Lionel Jefferies, is based on the classic children’s book of the same name by Charles Kingsley. The DVD retails for $14.95.

Fans of the Dragon Ball Z series can pick up the feature Dragon Ball Z:

Super Android 13! on DVD. This time the Dragon Ball Z warriors must face off against androids that are stronger, faster and ten times more deadly. From Funimation Prods., the disc retails for $24.95

Also making its way to home video today is Paramount Home Ent.’s Dora the Explorer: Dora’s Map Adventures. This first full-length DVD release from the popular Nickelodeon pre-school series features two episodes in which the young heroine learns what maps are for. The disc also contains two bonus episodes: “Three Little Piggies” and “Lost and Found.” It retails for $19.99 DVD and $12.95 VHS.

Another Nick Jr. favorite, Blue’s Clues, has a debut today with Blue’s Clues: Blue’s Big Band. This installment is all about making music, playing instruments and singing songs. DVD extra features include two bonus episodes from the Rhythm & Blue VHS: “Blue Wants to Play a Song Game” and “What Does Blue Wanna Do on a Rainy Day?” Also included is a Nickelodeon parent’s guide. It retails for $19.99 DVD and $9.95 VHS.
