Fat Rock Ent., a film production and distribution company focused on children’s properties, has landed a distribution agreement with Universal Pictures Visual Programming, an acquisition unit of Universal Worldwide Home Ent. Universal will distribute Fat Rock’s films worldwide on home video and television. As part of the agreement, Universal may also distribute Fat Rock’s films theatrically outside North America and China.
Domestically, Fat Rock’s G-rated motion pictures will be exhibited in all major markets on 1,000 to 1,500 screens. Loews Cineplex, Cinemark and Carmike theatres will exhibit the company’s output on Saturday and Sunday matinees and weekdays during the summer and holidays.
The agreement between Universal and Fat Rock initially covers six films over three years. Titles include the Hasbro brand-based Super Soakers and My Little Pony, as well as original Fat Rock properties such as Savanah’s Pajamas.
Fat Rock will be working closely with United International Pictures to find exhibitors and cross-promotional partners in selected territories interested in developing a similar theatrical strategy.
