Third Miyazaki DVD Release

In our coverage of yesterday’s DVD releases, we regretfully neglected to mention that Hayao Miyazaki’s 1986 classic Castle in the Sky is also now available on a two-disc DVD and special edition VHS. This first-ever English language release features the voices of James Van Der Beek (Dawson’s Creek), Anna Paqin (X-Men), Cloris Leachman (The Last Picture Show) Mandy Patinkin (The Princess Bride) Mark Hamill (Star Wars) and Andy Dick (Less Than Perfect).

Castle in the Sky takes place in a mythical retro future where young Paza (Van Der Beek) finds the beautiful Sheeta (Paquin) floating on air through the magic of a mysterious crystal. The crystal becomes the target of a band of sky pirates and other sinister forces. The chase leads to an astonishing castle in the sky, populated by a long-slumbering civilization.

This new DVD and VHS release features an new core by composer and Miyazaki collaborator Joe Hisaishi. DVD extra features include the original Japanese language track, an introduction by John Lasseter, a voice talent featurette, original Japanese trailers and storyboards.

This Buena Vista Home Ent. release of a Studio Ghibli film retails for $29.99 DVD and $19.99 VHS.
