Surf’s Up Catches Blu-Ray Wave This Fall

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment revealed yesterday that it will bring its early summer CGI feature Surf’s Up to Blu-ray on October 9. The announced extras of the Blu-ray will include filmmaker audio commentary, a three-part making-of documentary and music videos. Tech specs include 1080p video and an uncompressed PCM 5.1 surround track. The disc will have a $38.95 suggested list price.

Directed by Ash Brannon (Toy Story 2) and Chris Buck (Disney’s Tarzan), the clever mockumentary-style comedy offers a behind-the-scenes look at the annual Penguin World Surfing Championship and centers on up-and-comer Cody Maverick (voiced by Shia LaBeouf). Jeff Bridges also shines as the voice of Big Z, a washed- up pro who reaches a few life lessons to Cody. Zooey Deschanel, Jon Heder, James Woods and Mario Cantone are among the other celebs sharing their vocal talents.

To date, Surf’s Up has brought in $57.6 million at the U.S. box office and $64 million worldwide. Th pic should also prove popular on DVD, especially with an all-new ChubbChubbs animated short tacked on as a bonus feature. The deceptively adorable characters from the 2003 Academy Award-winning short The ChubbChubbs are back in The ChubbChubbs Save Xmas. Other extra features being thrown into the mix include the first ChubbChubbs short, a three-part making-of documentary titled Not a Drop of Water, filmmaker commentary, a Lauryn Hill music video and three interactive games.
