A new remastered collection of Tom and Jerry shorts directed by Chuck Jones will be released on DVD on June 23. Warner Bros. Home Video’ Tom and Jerry: Chuck Jones Collection will showcase 34 of the cat-and-mouse toons from the Jones era as well as new documentaries about the famous characters. The DVD will retail for $26.99.
‘We’ve had the pleasure of releasing several Tom and Jerry collections over the years but this is the first compilation to exclusively feature the work of Chuck Jones,’ notes Amit Desai, WHV Vice President of Family, Animation & Sports Marketing ‘All the cartoons featured on this DVD collection have been re-mastered, so they look and sound as vibrant and beautiful as they did when they were first released over forty years ago.’
The Chuck Jones era of Tom and Jerry cartoons (1963-1967) began when the animator became the head of a newly formed animation department at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1963 after almost three decades at Warner Bros. Among the projects he shepherded at MGM were How The Grinch Stole Christmas, The Phantom Tollbooth, and the 34 theatrical Tom & Jerry shorts included on this DVD.
Among the shorts featured on the the two-disc set (in their original aspect ratio of 1:85) are Penthouse Mouse, The Cat Above and the Mouse Below, Is There a Doctor in the Mouse?, The Unshrinkable Jerry Mouse, Tom-ic Energy, Jerry-Go-Round, Puss ‘n’ Boasts, Haunted Mouse and Purr-Chance to Dream as well as the documentaries Tom and Jerry’and Chuck and Chuck Jones: Memories of a Childhood (which debuts on TCM this month).
