Peter Strauss, Tim Curry and Paul Winfield have been signed as voice talent in Kids’ Ten Commandments, a new animated mini-movie that will be released directly to video for the religious market in Feb. 2003. The property will get a wider general-consumer launch in 2004.
Emmy Award winner Peter Strauss, best known for his work on series television and movies of the week, will provide the voice of Moses, who goes up the mountain not once, but twice, to bring back the tablets to the people.
Tim Curry, star of the WB’s Family Affair and the voice of Nigel Thornberry on The Wild Thornberry’s, will voice for Hazzaka, an evil-doer who meets his match in the first episode.
Paul Winfield, hailed for his role as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in the NBC mini-series King, will lend his vocal talents to the character of Shadi, the camel.
Kids’ Ten Commandments combines 3D and 2D animation techniques in teaching kids about those all important thou shalls and shall nots. The 5×30 series is being produced by TLC Ent., creators of the award-winning Captain Kangaroo, McGee and Me! and The Christmas Lamb, in association with SMEC Media and RichCrest Animation. All three have been in production on the project for the past three years. Ken C. Johnson and Richcrest’s Richard Rich are co-directing.
TLC Ent. is collaborating with Tyndale Ent. on distribution to the religious marketplace. In addition to the home video release, there will be an ongoing introduction of books and church-based curriculum, as well as Kids’ Ten Commandments The Game, which will be released in Sept. 2003.
