‘Nut Job’ Looks to Crack Home Video Debut

It’s a heist gone wild with the home video release of the hit animated feature The Nut Job (Open Road Films, $29.98 DVD, $34.98 Blu-ray, DVD and digital copy, $49.98 3D Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD and digital copy).

Featuring Will Arnett as a curmudgeonly squirrel named Surly who is banished from the park eyes a nut shop as his salvation, the feature was a solid hit when it was released in January, earning $69 million in worldwide ticket sales. Directed by Peter Lepeniotis, the film features the voices of Brendan Fraser, Liam Neeson, Katherine Heigl, Maya Rudolph, Jeff Dunham and Gabriel Iglesias.

Also out this week is Stan Lee’s Mighty 7: Beginnings (Cinedigm, $14.93 DVD, $19.97 Blu-ray and DVD) as an exclusive release for Walmart and Sam’s Club. The supehero epic features the voice talents of Armie Hammer, Christian Slater, Mayim Bialik, Teri Hatcher, Flea, Darren Criss, Sean Astin, Jim Belushi, Michael Ironside (X-Men: First Class) and, of course, the master of the modern cameo, Stan Lee himself.

If that’s not enough to scratch your itch for animated superhero antics, head over to Warner Archive for The Green Lantern: The Animated Series (Warner Bros. Archive, $29.99 Blu-ray).

For the wee ones, this week sees Thomas & Friends: Railway Mischief (HIT Entertainment, $14.98) and Angry Birds Toons: Season 1, Volume 2 (Sony, $19.99 DVD, $26.99 Blu-ray), as well as Shuriken School: The Ninja’s Secret (Cinedigm Entertainment, $14.95).

For the anime fan, there’s a lot to choose from: Saint Seiya: Sanctuary Classic Collection (Cinedigm Entertainment, $99.95), Heaven’s Lost Property: Complete Season 1 (FUNimation, $39.98 Blu-ray and DVD), One Piece Collection 9 (FUNimation, $34.98), Spice & Wolf: The Complete Series (FUNimation, $54.98 Blu-ray and DVD) and Berserk Golden Age Arc 3: Advent (VIZ Media, $19.98 DVD, $24.98 Blu-ray).
