Shout! Factory has released Full Frontal, a new compilation of 30 animated shorts from the Spike & Mike’s Sick & Twisted Festival of Animation. The release coincides with the debut of the book Outlaw Animation: Cutting -Edge Cartoons from the Spike & Mike Festival, published by Harry N. Abrams Inc.
Full Frontal features short films by 27 noted animators, including Bill Plympton (Mutant Aliens), Craig MacCracken (Powerpuff Girls), Don Hertzfeldt (Rejected) and Mondo Mini Shows (Happy Tree Friends). With titles like How to Grab a Woman’s Breast, Choke Spot Choke, Coco the Junkie Pimp and Harry Pothead and the Magical Herb, this compilation is aimed at adult audiences boasts films that “explore and push the boundaries of animation as an art form.”
Full Frontal runs approximately 95 minutes and retails for $19.98. This is the first in a series of titles from Spike & Mike to be released by Shout! Factory. For upcoming DVD releases, the company will be mining the festival’s rich catalog, which goes back more than 20 years.
The Spike & Mike Animation Festivals have helped to launch the careers of Aardman’s Nick Park and Peter Lord (Creature Comforts, Chicken Run), South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker, Mike Judge (Beavis and Butt-head, King of the Hill) Pete Docter (Monsters, Inc.), Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo) and John Lasseter (Toy Story, Monsters, Inc.)
