Miramax Gets Fab Three from Paul McCartney

Miramax, which recently expanded into animation with the anime TV property Tokyo Pig and LEGO’s direct-to-video CG Bionicle series, further grows its library with three animated stories produced by former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney. Tropic Island Hum, Tuesday and Rupert & the Frog Song are scheduled to be released on DVD and VHS in spring 2004.

McCartney, a self-professed animation lover, worked with long-time collaborator Geoff Dunbar to enhance the animation with additional special effects. In addition, the titles will include live-action footage featuring the legendary musician himself.

Jeff Tahler, VP of acquisitions, is overseeing the project for Miramax in New York and Colin Vaines, exec. VP of European production and development, is handling the project for Miramax in the U.K.

McCartney and Mramax co-chairman Harvey Weinstein most recently collaborated on "The Concert for New York City,” which raised $35 million for the victims of 9/11.
