Green Lantern is getting animated just ahead of his big-screen live-action debut, with the release on home video of a new animated feature film.

Green Lantern: Emerald Knights (Warner Bros., $19.98 DVD, $24.98 Blu-ray/DVD/digital copy combo pack) is the superhero’s second animated outing as part of the DC Universe line of original animated features. The first was Green Lantern: First Flight in 2009.

This second outing collects six tales of different members of the galaxy-spanning Green Lantern Corps into a single original feature. With superhero animation legend Bruce Timm as executive producer, the feature is directed by Lauren Montgomery, Jay Oliva and Christopher Berkeley and features stories by well-known comic-book creators Geoff Johns, Dave Gibbons, Peter J. Tomasi, Eddie Berganza, Alan Burnett, Todd Casey and Michael Green & Marc Guggenheim.

The voice cast includes Nathan Fillion as Hal Jordan, as well as Elizabeth Moss, Henry Rollins, Jason Isaacs, “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, Arnold Vosloo, Kelly Hu, Wade Williams and talk show host Michael Jackson.

Bonus features on the combo pack edition include a sneak peek at the upcoming Batman: Year One, a behind-the-scenes look at All-Star Superman, featurettes “Only the Bravest: Tales of The Green Lantern Corps” and “Why Green Lantern Matters: The Talent of Geoff Johns,” audio commentary from Johns and DC Comics executive editor Dan DiDio, a digital comic book, bonus animated TV series and more.

Hal Jordan telling the new rookie tall (and highly disjointed) tales was a stretch. Especially when they were prompted by random lanterns floating by. We would have preferred a dedicated story, especially after Green Lantern First Flight.

Here is our takes with lots o’ pics and a little wit if you are interested:
