Entertainment Rights Plc. has acquired distribution rights to Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper, the fourth computer-animated feature film in Mattel’s highly successful direct-to-video franchise. The company will release the title on DVD and VHS in the U.K. on the Entertainment label and has also secured international television rights, excluding North America.
Animated by Canada’s Mainframe, Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper puts a modern twist on the classic story as it teaches girls about hope, self-discovery and the strength of love.
Mattel’s first three full-length feature films, Barbie in the Nutcracker, Barbie as Rapunzel and Barbie of Swan Lake, have sold to national broadcast partners in more than 90 countries worldwide including Super RTL in Germany, M6 in France, Mediaset in Italy, Telecinco in Spain, TVB Hong Kong, SBS Korea and Network 7 in Australia. Through its distribution deal with Universal International, Entertainment Rights has sold more than seven million Barbie tapes and DVDs to date.
