Cartoon Network’s Adult Fare Swims To DVD

Looking to continue its ratings and revenue success with adult-targeted content, Cartoon Network is releasing its Adult Swim block on DVD this fall.

CN’s top-rated series, Space Ghost Coast to Coast and Aqua Teen Hunger Force will make their digi disk debut on November 18, 2003 from Warner Home Video. Each title will be released as a two-disc collector’s set, priced at $29.98. Both shows air on Adult Swim, the cabler’s top-rated late-night animation block.

Space Ghost Coast to Coast: Volume One will contain 16 episodes plus commentaries from the show’s creators. Space Ghost, which debuted in 1994, features a former superhero who’s now the galaxy’s crankiest talk-show host. The guest list for volume one includes the Bee Gees, Ashley Judd, Adam West, Slash, Carol Channing, (the late Monty Pyhton alum) Terry Jones, and many more.

The Aqua Teen Hunger Force: Volume One DVD will also contain 16 episodes, including the original cut of the pilot, Rabbot. The series chronicles the adventures of human-sized food products, Meatwad, Frylock and Master Shake, who live together in a rental house in New Jersey. Both titles will be supported with a comprehensive marketing plan targeted at the core audience of men 18-34. Ads are currently planned for Maxim, Rolling Stone and Spin, among others. National online promotion will appear on AdultSwim.com, IGN.com, Maxim.com, Atomfilms.com and Ifilm.com.

Adult Swim made its debut on Cartoon Network in September 2001, airing two nights per week. In January 2003, the block expanded to five nights per week. For the second quarter of 2003, Adult Swim posted triple-digit rating and delivery gains among all key demos compared to the same time period last year.
